| Land Rover Cup 2008, Prestice, Czech Republic Probably the oldest traditional Land Rover meeting in the Czech Republic, Land Rover Cup takes place every June in Prestice, just south of Plzen. Shooting competition and offroad trials are included, plus a ride out in a long column of all participants into the area surrounding the small town of Prestice. This year we decided to go and see the event as last year I missed the event by only one week - at that time I still didn't have my licence plates. The weather was slightly undecided, but Saturday turned out very nice. The event was exciting, with off-road driving, pistol and submachine gun target shooting, horse driving and hot air balloon flying - shortly, there was enough for everyone. In the end I was the third in shooting, which came as a surprise as I haven't held a gun since my one-year service in the military in 2002-2003. Scoring 176 points out of 200 was a decent achievement and it earned me a few very nice prizes. Our off-road trial achievement was by far not the best one, we ended up 37th out of about 45 participants, in any case it was one of the funniest experiences I had with the motor. We did not stay overnight but joined a friend with a 101 FC and drove through the evening and night to Prague, which was about 100 kilometres away. With a late evening dinner on the way, we arrived home at around 1:00 AM, tired but happy. The event was a success, with just under 10 old Series Land-Rovers participating and a total turnout of over 70 vehicles. |
